Corton New Sewage Works.

Went to the Church yard first and there was an obvious fall of BLACKBIRD and THRUSH including 2 REDWING which as usual where quick to take flight. Must have it in there genes to just keep moving.
As for CNSW the best bird was a female BULLFINCH and a single CHIFFCHAFF and REDWING here was 5 as for BLACKBIRD they came in at 16. I just had 1 SKYLARK over and a flock of 19 STARLING. SONG THRUSH  3.

Bird table is filling up now?

Tramps Ally

Spent most of the day beach fishing, plenty of WHITEING about 24 but nout else. As for birding two MEADOW PIPIT, and the above MED GULLS came in at 5 and as for the CARRION CROW family they are standing at 6. A JAY was in the Dip Farm car park and that's it.

Carlton Marsh

Still under reconstruction as a reserve with limited access, but the time will come when all will be able to enjoy a really wonderful reserve. The development however still does not hinder birding for the area. My best bird was 50 ft fly through HEN HARRIER, ringtail which came of Whitecast Marsh and flew in front of me and by the time I had gained a gap amongst the scrub it was well off and still going. Mobbed all the way it headed over Spratt's Water and was gone. Best picture is below, but needs much to be desired.

I also had four MARSH HARRIER and five GREY HERON. MEADOW PIPIT 5, LAPWING 30, MALLARD 8 and one LITTLE EGRET.

Old Coastguard Station. Lowestoft.

After a SHORELARK was reported in the area of SLP yard a few days ago I thought I would give it a look. As well as this confiding bird a pair of BLACK REDSTART were flitting about. Also a walk around the OVAL with only ROBINS, MAGPIE 9 and 8 CARRION CROWS but a LINNET did show on the nets.

River Orwell

I was birding at low water under the Orwell Bridge this am, when a JAY headed out over the river. He had only got 20 yards across when he was forced into the water by a mixed group of gulls. He flounded in the water for a short while and made it into the air. Only to be downed again by three crows. He managed to get airborne again. Only to be attacked again 200 yards from far shore. He managed to get 10ft from shore as a peregrine hit him into the water. He lumbered to shore wet and very worse for wear.
Think this is a WHIMBRAL on the near shore of the Orwell. MALLARD mid stream swimming 11 and at least 50+ CORMORANT with also 60+ OYSTERCATCHER  and 20 CURLEW and a scattering of REDSHANK. 2 GREY LAG GEESE and two CANADA GEESE.

Ness Point:

A two hour take out proved of some interest from the shore but little to really shout about. Best was the view of BRENT GEESE heading the wrong way with scattered birds coming in at 48 birds. There was only 7 that made a flock of COMMON SCOTER. As for GANNET all birds seen were up and down, but all birds were black and young with only one intermediate and counted in at 10. Just one GREAT CORMORANT and a few TURNSTONE.

Home, Corton Logging Mill and Links Hill

Home:  Sat outside after meeting the world and soon heard BRAMBLING in the large tree. But as soon as clocked them they were off South calling as they went. A sure sign of autumn. Also two PIED WAG over.
Corton new Sewer Mill:  The best here for me was five SKYLARK which must have come of the sea and were heading inland. Also 3 CHIFFCHAFF and a pair of COMMON BUZZARD being mobbed by CARRION CROWS. A SPARROWHAWK flew low over the bottom field and put all the gulls up. CHAFFINCH 2, LONG TAILED TIT 30+ with an increase of COMMON GULL on wet fields after much rain last evening. They must have been over 50+. A new surprise was a single DUNNOCK and two GEAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER, SONG THRUSH 1 and the same for MISTLE THRUSH.
Links Hill car park:    Four MED GULLS with one fully adult the others showing signs of youth. Three GREENFINCH on arrival and three CARRION CROW. Nothing offshore.
Nothing wrong with a DUNNOCK      One of five SKYLARK.
Something to Crow about.                  This Blackie has signs of incoming.
This is a GREEN job.                                                            Gull fest.
