Lowestoft.

I had a call from a friend in Ferndale Drive. Very confiding or perhaps very exhausted WOODCOCK. It was that laid back I was taking photo's from a meter away. Such a lovely looking bird when given this type of opportunity. Who can have designed such exquisite camouflage. Also our resident for perhaps a little while longer, on silo. South side view from Asda car park.

Home

22.03.2012 Thursday: Needed to head of to Barnby so while there a quick drive around drew in several CHIFFCHAFF calling alongside North Cove. Also a GREAT-SPOTTED-WOODPECKER and a fly over the car roof COMMON BUZZARD. this bird was well patterned out and a typical. On return to Lowestoft PEREGRINE on silo.
Today:  Gull started to kick off, a sign off bird of prey. Shaw enough a large raptor flew through over station square heading south being mobbed by gulls. The bird was very flat winged and very turned up at tips. Latter in the afternoon repeat performance, but just west of us flying about 500 yards away at a hundred feet, traveling south again. Clear id this time as a COMMON BUZZARD.

Carlton Marsh

Walk along main track to main bend produced two CETTI'S WARBLERS and just a single LINNET which led me a merry dance on id. For no other reason than it was a seemingly very pale female. After all the chasing about conclusion was mind settling, as it was nothing to out of the ordinary. Three REED BUNTING two as a pair and a single GREY HERON in field adjacent to center. A group off 18 LAPWING resting on Peto's Marsh and seven Hair's trying to chase each other for whatever reason I have no idea.
I have heard today that a single male BLACKCAP was in residence in garden in Victoria Road worth a KINGFISHER at Dead End, Oulton.

Ness Point, Lowestoft.

Plenty of action out at sea with at least 60 GANNET flying mostly North. Little else but in the low light and dark sky behind what  good views. RED-THROATED-DIVER and a few CORMORANT

Thorns In The Straw

Ness Point, Lowestoft.

I spent about an hour and had really good views off PURPLE SANDPIPER. 6 Birds in all with 19 TURNSTONE. I managed to gain a very good video clip of turnstones feeding  amongest seaweed. Will place on blog tomorrow. The only other accompaniment was 2 OYSTERCATCHER and single PIED WAG. Mind you I did gain a fleeting glimpse of a single GANNET near the Newcomb Buoy. The only other thing of interest was a single large bull GREY SEAL which was swimming strongly North.
