Pathways

KINGFISHER flew from supposed nest site, but such a steep bank and well hidden.

Pathways.

Walked round with a good friend and talked together for hours. Best bird here was what turned out to be a pair of KINGFISHER, new they where a pair as they where in my friends words, copulating. Seems more like hanck- pancky to me. So a nest must be somewhere? Also first SWALLOWS flitting through over the lake. When we arrived at the pond we put to flight a COMMON SANDPIPER only the second time on site.

Lound:   Walk round just a part  of site with very little on show, with BLACKCAP, WHITETHROAT, LINNET, CHAFFINCH, GREEN WOODPECKER, KESTREL.

Pathways Care Farm

We are well into spring now and birds are arriving daily. Also new arrivals through ongoing breeding. Our first brood of LITTLE GREBE with five young. Rather better than last year which took to the end of the year to get going. Lets hope that these young birds stay the course. We wish the same for the MALLARD who have also fledged seven young. We had seven BLACKCAP calling well, all over the place also CHIFFCHAFF came in at five. It was also a joy to see and hear a SONG THRUSH in full song. SWALLOW skimming over pond and another two on the lake. All together 23 species in an hour. The other surprise was a very large GRASS SNAKE. The largest I have ever encountered at least a meter long.

Home: Peregrine flew through twice and gulls kicked of when a COMMON BUZZARD flew through and then joined by another. Which was very diminutive as can be seen as it flew with a crow.
