Pahways

Bright day with a soothing North breeze.

This day brought in an interesting sigting with two LESSER WHITETHROAT feeding young. So obviously breeding on site which is for this area a very good report. This now brings the species list for the site to 58.  Also a single young LITTLE GREBE with four adults of which one was nest sitting. There are no young MOORHEN but there are still 9 young MALLARD. Young GREENFINCH and GOLDFINCH to, but the always star is the two young ROBINS.
There were hundreads of COMMON BLUE damselflies and also some dragonflies but all to far away to id. I did have four BLACK TAILED SKIMMER which also a good record for site.

Oulton Marsh and Pathways

Oulton Marsh Saturday evening, overcast.
Best bird was a well off BARN OWL with CHIFFCHAFF 2 and BLACKCAP 1. WILLOW WARBLER 1. With still only 1 GRASSHOPPER WARBLER and a single fly by AVOCET. The most interesting par of the evening however was the five REDSHANK that obviously had young near the river as they were flying in and out. However one flew close to the surface in the dyke, only to raise a pike a from the water and a snatch and grab move. Never ever seen that before.
Pathways: KINGFISHER and still a female TUFTED DUCK and several small MALLARD but nearly all gone. BLACKCAP 1 and GREENFINCH with young and a large family of LONG TAILED TITS.
Finished of my day being stung on the nose by a bee, painfull job.

Titchwell and Sculthorpe Moor.

Day out in North Norfolk.

Titchwell:    I surpose the best bird here was two families of RED CREASTED POCHARD with at least 7 young between them. SWIFT flying over the marsh with close flying. Also I counted 7 LITTLE GULL but there could have been more. MED GULLS I counted 7 adult, but also 3 immiture birds. COMMON GULLS with most inter plumage 9. BLACK TAILED GODWIT about 50 birds in all with a very larg scattering of AVOCET with no young. GREAT CREASTED GREBE 1, TUFTED DUCK and at least 6 POCHARD. On the small stuff only 1 MEADOW PIPIT and 1 SKYLARK, REED BUNTING, REED WARBLER, L,T,TIT, ROBIN,

Travelling back through Brancaster I had a CORN BUNTING wire sitting at tthe side of the road.

Sculthorp Moor:  First time here and what a fantastic disabaled acsses site. Best bird was four male BULLFINCH and also a fly over HOBBY. GARDEN WARBLER 1, BUZZARD 1, CHIFFCHAFF 5, GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER 1.
The leading:  It's only when you understand that there is no coincidence in life that the  chance meeting with a past working colleague that you can get to grips with the leading and guiding of God. For no apparent reason I turned of the road to the Moor. I had no intention at all of walking round, but seeing I was early I  turned on in and walked for a couple of hundred yards when a man standing in front of me called me by name. I recognised his voice but not his face. It had been 7 years since we last met at work and we caught up. He has undergone health issues and together on a seat we prayer#; together for God to intervene. A wonderful thing prayer.

Pathways, Lowestoft.

Rather overcast, with a light breeze from the North again.
Managed to put another bird on the list with a HOBBY which was being upset by a gull. But the best thing I actually saw was a KINGFISHER which was hovering over the water. It did not dive but I have never seen this before. It was also good to see about 50 SAND MARTINS feeding over the surface of the water. LITTLE GREBE came in at 2 but no little ones yet. As for the female MALLARD she was no were to be seen and only four ducklings left. It looks like the MUTE SWAN pair have still no been to work, just a bare nest. The COOT was still there after a week and very noisy.
As for small stuff WHITETHROAT 1, BLACKCAP 3, CHIFFCHAFF 1, LONG TAILED TIT, GREENFINCH, SWIFT 2, SKYLARK 1, SONG THRUSH 1.
