South Wales.

This trip to Dale Fort on the Pembrokshire Coast was the goal after treatment. The intention being to spend a day on Skomer Island. This never happened but the one day we did get proved to be a good day. The main thing being I made it there and back. 
The best bird was GLOSSY IBIS which for us all gave good views. Three birds in all put in a good appearance and not to distant as is often the case. Also RAVEN and nest site with the associate CHOUGH. Still a remarkable bird to watch although over the years I have been spoilt by these birds. I suppose if it is about anything it is about migrational movement that captivates anyone who goes to such a place as we where able to pick up on WHIMBRAL in plus 20 numbers one single GREENSHANK and for me and Jonathan a pair of SANDWICH TERNS. other birds on view were. RAZORBILL, GUILLEMOT. FULMER, MANX SHEARWATER, STONECHAT, WHEATEAR, REED BUNTING, CHIFFCHAFF,
We also had good view of Grey Seal and Badger set on cliff face. As for traveling up there and back more than 30 COMMON BUZZARD and 15 KITE. Plus a HOBBY as we came into Suffolk, evidently the first for the county for the year.

Today is a very important day. Last day of Chemo and although things are not as black and white as you would like, a RING OUZEL is. Mind you take a look at the carpel joint and the featheration around the area, especially in relation to to alula feather being white. Nice touch in a bird that is so distinctive. Thanks to who ever found it as it has been impossible for me to get around, this was one on the doorstep for me.

Now near the end of treatment but still restricted to home means little to report. Only that this morning I woke up to my first WILLOW WARBLER in the tree singing well. He didn't stay long, but the I don't blame him.

Sotterly Woods

Just a walk through to see if we could locate GARGANY and MANDARIN duck. We managed both but views were not close. Despite this took shots and will need to relate to blog later. We also sighted together 3 COMMON BUZZARD one with attitude to the others and also a single bird the other side of Hulver. Also first female BLACKCAP for the year.

Still unable to really get out so all birding is restricted. But it was good after trying to encourage GOLDFINCH into the garden to see three birds feeding on nigger seed in the week. As for the MAGPIES they are still being harassed in the building of there nest by the local pair of COMMON CROWS. Jonathan managed to meet up with two KITS at the back of Benacre on Wednesday. He was able to watch them for 15 minuets. I also had flyover COMMON BUZZARD in the week from the garden.

I had a call from a friend in Ferndale Drive. Very confiding or perhaps very exhausted WOODCOCK. It was that laid back I was taking photo's from a meter away. Such a lovely looking bird when given this type of opportunity. Who can have designed such exquisite camouflage. Also our resident for perhaps a little while longer, on silo. 22.03.2012 Thursday: Needed to head of to Barnby so while there a quick drive around drew in several CHIFFCHAFF calling alongside North Cove. Also a GREAT-SPOTTED-WOODPECKER and a fly over the car roof COMMON BUZZARD. this bird was well patterned out and a typical. On return to Lowestoft PEREGRINE on silo. 
Today:  Gull started to kick off, a sign off bird of prey. Shaw enough a large raptor flew through over station square heading south being mobbed by gulls. The bird was very flat winged and very turned up at tips. Latter in the afternoon repeat performance, but just west of us flying about 500 yards away at a hundred feet, traveling south again. Clear id this time as a COMMON BUZZARD.
