North Dene's

Just a short walk out and when I mean short, just one mile along the prom. Best bird was a close MEADOW PIPIT that new how to disappear. Which it did within seconds. CORMORANTS on the groynes with a few gulls and no surprises. Two OYSTERCATCHER under the sea wall as well as a few TURNSTONE and at the Ness end 11 PURPLE SANDPIPER. PIED WAGTAIL over and five GOLDFINCH.

Pathways

Regular call in with the first sighting of a KINGFISHER on site, Bird sat in usual place beside high rise bank. There where three CHIFFCHAFF calling and a SPARROWHAWK flew from nearby the hide heading North. One of the clients from Pathways shew me a feather and I had no real idea but local birder recognised it as a MAGPIE tail feather.

Also took a video show of a DABCHICK.

Home and Somerlyton Staith

Sat in the garden off and on this morning listening to two CHIFFCHAFF calling well unlike yesterdays bird which was silent a bland. I was also joined briefly by our keep on appearing female BLACK REDSTART. She sat only a few feet away. Stunning bird and what a privilege to have such a bird regularly in your garden.

Somerlyton: Spent an hour by the water watching BUZZARDS and MARSH HARRIER quartering the reed bed. Picked up on two REED  BUNTING both male. Had a large CROW fly by with its galular full of something.

Pathways Care Farm

Spent just over the hour on site and the surprise was to find three TEAL cruising about. With two male and a single female. These birds where in spanking plumage and displayed well on the lake. Still sailing around are the 44 GADWALL. Also with three CHIFFCHAFF calling sounded somewhat like spring. With a bright blue sky it is my blog day. Managed a HAIRY FOOTED BEE.

Today is Tuesday and I spent 2 hours with clients in conversation and walk around the farm. We may not have found any surprises in birds but we did manage to find a BLACK WINGED BEE FLY.

Pathways and home.

It is a lovely day, its a shame that in our world not everyone can enjoy. For all those who are living through it we say a prayer. " May your Kingdom come and your will be done". In this His world which has never been our, and never will be. Only that His instruction was that we should steward it well and value what he has created. God bless the people of Ukraine, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and on and on. For God has not called us to violence and war, but to peace in His name the name of Jesus the Price of Peace. Let the birds fly and may we to fly to Him the one who loves all and proved by His death on the cross. For when man put him there He could not stay dead.

Pathways:  Still a good stock of GADWALL on lake with 44 birds and again the two returned MUTE SWAN. The BLACK REDSTART was still hanging around the barn and as I watched a movement of 11 COMMON BUZZARD moved on through heading towards Park Hill. Two GREENFINCH and now four DABCHICK.

Home: Woke up to the sound of irate gulls. Early morning with a pair of RED KITE right over the house and then as I sat in the garden just feet away popped up a female BLACK REDSTART. a JOY TO BEHOLD.

Lound Pits

This small area of a wild gravel pit has been of recent years somewhere to call in as it is not regularly visited. On arrival a GREEN WOODPECKER was laughing away. Which was more than I am. A SONG THRUSH flew from ajacent garden on arrival. First migrant of the year was a fresh calling CHIFFCHAFF. a single male CHAFFINCH was calling and also WREN, BLACKBIRD, HOUSE SPARROW. PHEASANT, but the amount of gulls following the plough was over 500 birds.

And again.

Out of action again after a scare on few days visit to JPH. But now up and running again. So PATHWAYS was a call in for a short while. The best thing I ever did in birding was get involved.

Best bird of the day was a female BLACK REDSTART which was darting about on the tiled roof of the barn. Geoff was pleased to have a view she must have just moved in from the coast. The thing is trying to find the nest in a few weeks.

COOT was back on the scene as was the GREY HERON. the count was up on the GADWALL with 33 birds. Two LITTLE GREBE and 13 MOORHEN. BUZZARD fly over three and a single GREENFINCH.
