Pathways and Links Hill.

As we gain time on the season of good will, time seems to run out. But a walk out is a treat. So is this GREY WAGTAIL on the roof of the barn. As for the lake the best bird was a BLACK HEADED GULL with a pink flush. Or as I would say roseate? I have been made aware that this flush is caused by it eating shrimp in the Baltic sea. Right or wrong it sounds good.

Links Hill:   A really large and prim COMMON GULL odd how they vary in size and build. This one was not diminutive at all. I also had a visit from a PIED WAGTAIL which was fly catching along the sea wall.

On July 18th 2018 Landsat 8 acquired an image of a phytoplankton bloom in the Gulf of Finland, Baltic Sea. The largest ever.

It may be a good idea to look for birds with a pink flush as a response to this ecological incident. 

Pathways

Little change here as the weather continues to pull in for winter. GADWALL numbers still high with a drop in DABCHICK. But the best for the day was a GREEN WOODPECKER which was in the far right meadow. Only gave me the chance of a single shot, but it proved good. This bird a male was interested in steak.

                                  

Ness Point.

Nothing much to write home about today but I still like these MEADOW PIPIT rummaging about in weed cover under Gulliver. With such a dull day even I am surprised. JACKDAWS 4 over house today which is unseasonable as they only hang around in Spring. 

North Denes.

Walked for just an hour around, getting to old for the cold.

Best bird was a pair of STONECHAT that flew in close enough for a good picture when the sun came out. But it was good to see two flocks of GREENFINCH which counted out at 50+ and also LINNET in a flock of 20+ birds. Also a single OYSTERCATCHER and the same for PURPLE SANDPIPER.

Pathways

Today saw the highest bird count of the year at 31 with also adding LAPWING to the year list. Which now brings list to 70 for the year. Which is really good considering. TUFTED DUCK turned up again after being away since May. With COMMON BUZZARD, SPARROWHAWK, KESTREL with the first GREENFINCH in weeks to.

Oulton Broad and Leathe's Ham.

Oulton Broad:  Just a walk round with nothing of major interest but I did pick up a GREAT BLACK BACKED GULL which had colour ring. Black and it seems that it was rung in South Norway after a search. GREAT TIT, BLUE TIT, PIED WAG, TURNSTONE 2 and CORMORANT came in at 3.
Leathe's Ham:  Again only the amount of SHOVELOR was out of the usual with COOT, MOORHEN, GADWALL only four. A lonely GREY HERON stood on his own.

Suffolk from the air.

I gratefully was given the opportunity to fly around North Suffolk today by a relative who took me up in in his Cessna from Seething airport. A flight around many of the places that I usually trudge was on this beautiful Autumn afternoon a real joy. So join me as you enjoy the pic's.
